Learning Opportunities in Shady Grove Shady Grove Center (Rockville)
The foundation year is offered at Shady Grove on a full-and part-time basis. Full-time students take four courses (Wednesdays and Fridays) and foundation field instruction in the fall and two courses and foundation field instruction in the spring. These students may begin advanced courses in the spring semester. Part-time students may take two courses in the fall (SOWK 640 and one other), and SOWK 641 in the spring at Shady Grove and a second spring course in Baltimore (either foundation research or policy). In their third semester (fall), they will take Foundation Field Instruction and Practice Iat Shady Grove. In their fourth semester (spring), they will take Foundation Field Instruction and Practice IIat Shady Grove and have the option for advanced courses. Two advanced courses are offered in the spring semester at Shady Grove. In addition, some courses are offered on the Web. It is possible to pay part-time tuition for the first four semesters. Advanced coursework is postponed until the third year. Field instruction for the foundation and the advanced years is located in or near the student’s community.
