RUTH H. YOUNG SCHOLARSHIP
DEADLINE: May 4, 2009

In honor of Ruth H. Young, a former Dean of the SSW, one $1,000 award will be given this spring to a MSW student who is about to enter his or her advanced
year.
The purpose of this award is to support students with a commitment to practice in child welfare upon graduation.

In order to be considered for the award, an applicant must submit a 250-500 word essay describing his or her experiences in and future commitment to social work practice in the child welfare system. We are looking for essays that describe what the meaning of the practice experience has been to the student applicant, as well as how that experience has shaped what the student plans to do in child welfare upon graduation. Once the essay is evaluated, the committee reviewing the application will also consider the applicant’s grade point average and the first-year field instructor’s final evaluation.

Submissions for the award should be placed in Associate Dean Deborah Rejent’s mailbox #132 by May 4, 2009. Please use a cover page that includes your name, social security number, and contact information. The essay itself should contain only your student ID number as identification so the essay can be reviewed anonymously. The winner will be informed in early June.
