Spring Registration

Newly Admitted Students for Spring 2024, who have paid their $300 non-refundable deposit, may begin online registration on November 28, 2023 at 6:00 AM Eastern. Online registration takes place using SURFS and log in requires using your UMID account information.

All students admitted for Spring are part-time and must register for 6 credits.  It is strongly recommended that students register for classes as early as possible to secure a seat.

All students are eligible to enroll in online courses, however, only students accepted into the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) may register for courses offered at this location.  

UMB and the School of Social Work will be closed December 25, 2023 through January 2, 2024

ALL FOUNDATION STUDENTS

All Foundation Students admitted in the Spring are part-time and must register for 6 credits.  Required courses are listed below under Baltimore Foundation Students and USG Foundation Students.

Foundation Students admitted for Spring 2024 will begin their Foundation Field Practicum (SOWK 635) in Fall 2024.  Students must submit a Field Placement Application within two weeks of paying their $300 non-refundable deposit.  Your Field Placement Application is submitted via your Electronic Field Notebook (EFN).

BALTIMORE FOUNDATION STUDENTS

Baltimore Foundation Students must register for both of the following courses in their first term:

  • SOWK 610 Structural Oppression and its Implications for Social Work (3 credits)
  • SOWK 645 Human Behavior and the Social Environment (3 credits)
USG FOUNDATION STUDENTS

USG Foundation Students must register for both of the following courses in their first term:

  • SOWK 600 Social Welfare and Social Policy (3 credits)
  • SOWK 610 Structural Oppression and its Implications for Social Work (3 credits)
ADVANCED STANDING STUDENTS

Advanced Standing Students are required to receive mandatory advising assistance from Alexander Cosentino-Tich.  Please contact Mx. Cosentino-Tich at sswadvising@ssw.umaryland.edu. 

Advanced Standing Students admitted for Spring 2024 will begin their Advanced Field Placement in Fall 2024. Students must submit a Field Placement Application within two weeks of paying their $300 non-refundable deposit.  Your Field Placement Application is submitted via your Electronic Field Notebook (EFN).

TRANSFER STUDENTS

Students who received a letter from the Office of Records and Registration granting transfer credits from another MSW program should refer to that letter when selecting courses for enrollment.
