Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Program

The University of Maryland School of Social Work PhD program prepares graduates to conduct interdisciplinary research and become exemplary social work scholars and educators.  The PhD program develops strengths in research and data analysis methods, as well as in opportunities for applied research and for dissemination. Located on the University of Maryland Baltimore’s campus, students have access to interdisciplinary preparation and collaboration. Our graduates find work in academic, research, policy, and agency settings.

    A Master of Social Work (MSW) degree is required to apply to the PhD program. Applications for the Fall 2025 semester are due by January 5, 2025.
