What are the Requirements for the Program?
To qualify for this program, an applicant must have a career focus in the behavioral health/health field and a commitment to serve individuals and families living in under resourced areas. Students must complete all requirements in the academic year which include:
- Successfully completing a BHWISE Lifespan approved Advanced Field Placement in a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) for the academic year. (for a list of current FQHC field sites, see Field Placement tab)
- Completing two (2) Clinical Methods courses on evidence-based behavioral health interventions (e.g. Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, Integrated Behavioral Healthcare, or Core Concept in Trauma Treatment, Clinical Social Work with Addictive Behaviors. This is not a complete list).
- Completing the 1-credit Tele Behavioral Health course (SWCL 709) offered in both the fall and spring semesters.
- Completing a 2-day Motivational Interviewing training prior to the fall semester and a 2-day training on the assessment and evidence based treatment of trauma across the lifespan.
- Select and complete asynchronous modules from a menu of integrated behavioral health topics
- Completing a 1-credit Inter-professional course offered on campus OR participating in another interprofessional experiences (e.g., UMB’s President’s Clinic, etc.).
- Attending six monthly seminars to integrate your field experience and receive additional training on integrated behavioral health topics. Seminars are in-person on the Baltimore Campus.
- Signing a commitment letter, stating intent to pursue employment in integrated behavioral health, especially with underserved populations upon graduation.
BHWISE Fellows are supported in their advanced practicum year with a stipend of $25,000 minimum per student.
