Marlene Matarese, Research Assistant Professor Aaron Betsinger, PhD, and Angela Weeks have a new paper published in Children and Youth Services Review that explores the impact of juvenile justice workers' knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs on their behaviors towards youth with diverse sexual orientations, gender identities, and expressions (SOGIE). Using survey data from 237 juvenile justice staff members, the authors found that staff members with greater knowledge about LGBT people, and those who had ever had an LGBT youth on their caseload, were more likely to report that they would demonstrate supportive and protective behaviors toward youth with diverse SOGIE.
