The NIH's mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone. NIH works toward that mission by conducting research, supporting the research of non-Federal scientists, helping in the training of research investigators, and fostering communication of medical information. NIH is located in Bethesda, MD.

DHHS is the United States government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves. Activities related to social work include social science research, Medicare and Medicaid, financial assistance and services to families with low-incomes, improving maternal and infant health, Head Start, preventing domestic violence and child abuse, substance abuse treatment and prevention, services for older-Americans, and comprehensive health services for Native Americans.
