Student Practicum Education Orientation

Practicum Education Orientation is mandatory for Advanced Standing students and Foundation students who are taking practicum for the first time.  To clarify, "Advanced Standing" students are those students admitted with a BSW who will complete the program in one year, while "Advanced" students attended orientation previously for their Foundation year - these students do not need to attend this year.  Only new students need to attend.

The Student Practicum Education Orientation is held virtually in August.  Students must attend prior to starting their practicum. Please register for one of the dates below. 

Part 1:  Attend a Virtual (Zoom) Student Orientation.

New students are expected to attend an Orientation on one of the dates below.  Please click on a date to register & receive the Zoom link.  Be sure to save the link.

STUDENT ORIENTATION DATES 

    • Tuesday, August 19, 2025, from 6 - 9 PM - Click HERE to register.
    • Thursday, August 21, from 1 - 4 PM - Click HERE to register.
    • Friday, August 22, from 9 AM - 12 PM - Click HERE to register.

Field Instructor Orientation
Welcome to Field Education at the University of Maryland School of Social Work!  
 
The Field Instructor Orientation is in two parts: 
 
Part 1.  Watch the five short videos at your own pace prior to the start of Field. To view the videos click on the link below:   
 
Part 2.  After you have reviewed the videos, you are invited to attend a virtual New Field Instructor Orientation.  During the webinar we will review the field instructor video material, the field instructor role and expectations, and answer questions. (The New Field Instructor Orientation Live-Webinar is not eligible for CEUs.)
