PTCR is a group intervention program for biological parents or caregivers seeking to reunify with children in care. The group aims to address child and adolescent behavior concerns, such as oppositional defiant disorder, ADHD, delinquency, and substance use. It includes weekly parent group sessions that teach core parenting practices (e.g., skill encouragement, limit setting) and supporting practices (e.g., communication, emotion regulation). The program uses active teaching methods like role play and problem solving. Additional support and sessions are provided during or after reunification as well.

Primary Goals:

  • Strengthen positive parenting practices
  • Reduce inappropriate disciplinary practice
  • Prevent and reduce behavior concerns
  • Enhance academic functioning and positive social skills
  • Promote positive peer relationships
  • Strengthen collaborative parenting
  • Improve parental mental health
  • Prevent out-of-home placements
  • Use a trauma-informed approach tailored to specific populations
