Jessica Smith, LMSW, is a doctoral student at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Jessica completed her MSW from the University of Southern California with a clinical focus and conducted an independent study on the role of social work in the treatment of Eating Disorders, culminating in the development of an MSW elective syllabus on 'Weight Stigma, Diet Culture and Eating Disorders for Social Workers.' Jessica's research focuses on Eating Disorders, with an emphasis on the potential intersection of psychedelic assisted therapy as a treatment for chronic and treatment resistant Eating Disorders.
Jessica works as a therapist at a trauma informed practice, with a focus on disordered eating among children, as well as teaching yoga in her local community. She is passionate about supporting future research using the combination of both her clinical practice and academic research to support this vulnerable population. Jessica also seeks to bring more awareness and education to future social workers about the warning signs and potential treatments for these pervasive disorders.
