Sarah Clem HeadshotSarah Clem is a PhD student at the University of Maryland School of Social Work. Previously, Sarah worked in multiple capacities serving immigrants and refugees in New York City. She served as a counselor and program director for a program supporting youth transitioning to the US, helped immigrants resolve visa issues while working in a congressional office, and supervised a team of case planners providing education and monitoring to recent immigrant families at risk of abuse and neglect. Sarah also worked as a statistics instructor for the MSW program at Columbia University.


Research Interests
Sarah’s research interests are focused on funeral planning and death rituals among older immigrant populations. She is particularly interested in exploring transnational funerals and the resulting impact on the emotional and financial wellbeing of family members separated by national borders.
