Andrew Coop is professor and associate dean for graduate programs at the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, where he previously served as chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. Dr. Coop has received funding from the National Institute on Drug Abuse for his research on opioids, stimulants, and depressants, all of which were interdisciplinary projects concerned with the design and development of novel tools to allow pharmacological study of the biological systems involved in the abuse of these drugs. He has published more than 130 manuscripts and reviews, holds patents concerned with the chemistry and pharmacology of drugs with abuse liability, and has a passion for communicating with the public about science, with the goal of encouraging a diverse next generation of professionals.
