University of Maryland School of Social Work Admissions
The University of Maryland School of Social Work is designed to meet the needs of students interested in studying clinical social work, human service management, and community organization. Our highly-ranked 60 credit master's degree program is divided between 24 Foundation credits and 36 Advanced credits. You will have the choice in your advanced year between the Clinical Concentration and the Management and Community Organization Concentration (MACO). It is also possible to combine the two. In addition, you will choose a specialization, or field of practice, which will focus your work in a particular area of study within the Concentration. These specializations include Aging, Families and Children, Health, Mental Health, and Social Action and Community Development. The School also offers three academic sub-specializations in Employee Assistance Programs, Child, Adolescent, and Family Health, and Substance Abuse. If you are interested in pursuing a career in Public Child Welfare, you will want to learn more about the School's popular Title IV-E Education for Public Child Welfare program. We also offer a one-year Advanced Standing Program for students entering with a BSW degree from an accredited program. In addition to the master's of social work, the School offers four dual-degree programs: the MSW/MBA with the University of Maryland College Park; the MSW/JD with the University's School of Law; the MSW/MA (Jewish Studies) with the Baltimore Hebrew University; and the MSW/MPH with the University of Maryland School of Medicine or The Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Our PhD program is designed for professionals with a master's degree in social work. Upon completion of their studies, graduates have advanced analytical, research, and theoretical knowledge and skills to provide leadership, scholarship, and teaching that will further the social work profession.
